spring in green

Organic cotton, recycled fabrics, and other green materials are usually more expensive than your typical textile material, but H&M is making green clothing affordable and awesome. sweet!

Taken from tinygreenbubble.com:

"I consider myself a young lady of somewhat high fashion but who also likes to operate on a reasonable budget, so I shop at H&M quite a bit. Therefore, you can imagine how utterly thrilled I was when news broke that H&M will be launching their Conscious Collection, a line of clothing for men, women and children this April. Fabrics used in the collection will include organic cotton, organic linen, Tencel® and recycled polyester. All items will be in shades of white.

White, by the way, being a questionable purchasing call for a girl like me who frequently spills things, but let’s not focus on that. Let’s instead focus on what H&M head of design, Ann-Sofie Johansson, said about the line:

“The possibilities for creating a complete fashion statement with eco smarter materials are huge now. By designing recurring Conscious Collections, we have the opportunity to show in a variety of ways what’s possible using more sustainable fabrics.”

Now, before you get too excited, remember that H&M is the same company that was exposed last year for taking unsold, unworn clothing from its stores and simply destroying it. That, my friends, is far from sustainable. To H&M’s credit though, the clothing now goes to charities, which is a practice we can get behind.

We certainly think that there may be places that you can get far more ethical clothing, but we think moves like this are hugely important. The real changes come when companies with huge, mainstream reach make sustainability more accessible to the masses.

Plus, you know, I like to shop there, so this makes me personally quite happy! Unfortunately, while on the H&M press site, I also just saw that they are partnering with a Swedish company to “bring clogs to the world” this spring, which I am not as excited about."

  1. I am excited about this too, Ellenator. Their last eco-friendly collection was so-so. I hope I will like this one more.
